Manchester City went into the 1998/99 season with Man City Away Jersey 98-99 after having been relegated two years in a row. The club had before the season brought in striker Shaun Goater, who they hooped could help them elevate the club from the third best tier in England. Shaun Goater scored 20 goals in his first season and helped get the club to the Playoff final, which was to be played at Wembley. The dramatic playoff final between Manchester City and Gillingham ended in penalties, where “The Citizens” pulled out on top.
